How to play an audio file? #170

I know this is a basic question but I still couldn't manage to make it work. I have a project that I would like to alert the user via audio. How can I do that? Can I use any available GPIO pins? Do I need any external module (amplifier)? Any examples?

I really appreciate any help. Thank you!
