After my post I discovered the "extras". There is the supafaust .PAK in there which takes care of the SNES performance. It's 95% of the way there - it's still not as smooth as on Onion OS* so there must be some emulator/core tweaks to bring it up to the same level. I'll continue poking.
* In Super Mario World on the Yoshi's Island 2 level, the opening allows you to run for a while. You can see the juddering when following the scenery as it moves horizontal across the screen.
Update for anyone interested: Enabling the "Reduce judder" option fixes 95% of the motion issues without any perceivable side affects. I've saved this to the global settings for the cores and getting a much better experience. PlayStation still performs worse than in Onion OS though - 30fps as opposed to 60fps for NTSC games, and darker overall.
I LOVE DotUI, but the only thing preventing me using it over Onion OS is the performance.
If, for example, the SNES core was changed out from
snes9x2005_plus_libretro.so
tomednafen_supafaust_libretro.so
games like Star Fox would be buttery smooth instead of stuttering with choppy audio. I think the Game Boy core needs changed to (some games judder) but I'm not which one Onion OS is using off the top of my head.I'm trying to figure out how to swap these out myself (in the hopes of helping this issue along), but I've not been successful yet.
