I respect your decision either way! But to advocate for open source, I think your mod would grow more with that! For being a free mod, developers who are able can 'pay it back' with fixes and stuff, as well as better instilling trust with users. I appreciate your work and would love to help with fixes/features back!

If you're concerned of bad actors taking the code and making it closed-source for their gain (though i guess with decompiling its still possible) but you can add a copyleft license like bukkit/paper uses, which have protected them.

Some of the fixes/features I had in mind:

• When a single chat message has many emotes (especially GIFs and those that aren't in memory) it briefly freezes every client. (I assume this is because the emote requests are blocking calls?)
• The paper plugin seems to work and send the config, but doesn't seem to actually update on the client. Users have to update it themselves manually and reconnect. (Maybe I'm doing something wrong?)
• Some transparent emotes don't render very well:
  • Minecraft:
  • Twitch/Chatterino:
• "Zero-Width" Emote support
• BTTV channel emotes seem to load/fetch inconsistently
• Support for emotes that contain special characters (Global BTTV like D: and :tf: or 7tv emotes)
• Filtering out : on emotes if unnecessary. (We sync our server chat with discord, and some users still use : on twitch)
• In Paper, some optional message sent to players joining without the mod, recommending they install it
• Possibly support for emotes in other places like Kick messages, on-screen title messages, signs, etc
• Possibly support variable text height for chat so users can still use text height lower than 100% with good legibility

Overall, I'm sure others would be happy to contributing to fixes and features faster if it were open source, and would grow your mod more! :)
