Is there any other reason? Two of those shortcut are hardware keys. Super+E is the Windows "Explorer" shortcut. Super+F seems to make sense as the "Files" shortcut, unless we want to use it for something else.
Seem to be confused as Ctrl + Alt + F isn't a hardware key and was one we added so that we could remove Super + F. https://github.com/Xubuntu/xubuntu-default-settings/commit/63a4f38c8a416e40be8da5ec1b247f35aa52644c
Sorry for the delayed response. If I recall (it's been a long time now), we had added Ctrl+Alt
variants of each Super
key shortcut for keyboards that were lacking that key. Can you verify if you see that pattern, both within our keyboard shortcuts and in other desktops? If so, we can confirm with the rest of @Xubuntu/xubuntu-team whether we need to keep the variants.
I see Ctrl+Alt
variants of Super
key shortcuts only for L (xflock4), T (terminal), and F (thunar), but none for Super
plus R, P, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
I removed the Super+1,2,3,4 shortcuts.
I've also confirmed that there is not a 1:1 for Super vs Ctrl+Alt shortcuts.
The Super+Letter shortcuts we have now are:
D
: Show DesktopE
: (Windows compatibility) ExplorerF
: File ManagerL
: Lock ScreenM
: Mail ReaderP
: (Windows compatibility) Project Menu / Presentation Mode (this seems to have changed over the years)R
: (Windows compatibilty) Run DialogT
: Terminal EmulatorW
: Web BrowserF, M, T, and W are for the respective exo/xfce-open launchers. I think we should get @Xubuntu/xubuntu-team in on the Super+F shortcut removal before moving forward. I don't think it's critically important, but it does break our own convention.
Elsewhere, it appears Super+F is used as:
It looks like plenty of folks within the team depend on this keyboard shortcut, so closing this PR out.
As proposed in the UI & UX Tweaks Google Doc, Super + F is to be unassigned as Super + E was being assigned, as presently there are 4 shortcuts to open the file manager.
