After trying the Xfce-session, the Xubuntu-session won't come up. I can select Xubuntu-session, but after login it is still the Xfce-session. This remains after several reboots. I solved it for me to go to TTY with Ctrl+Alt+F1, and renamed .config/xfce4 in .config/xfce4.old and after reboot everything Xfce was back to Xubuntu 11.10 defaults

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

They are the same sessions, except the default settings. The first time you start a session, default settings are applied, which means that if you want to switch between the two sessions and see some differences, you have to reset your settings...
