In the Grub menu, Xubuntu is being called Ubuntu. This may cause confusion on a multiple boot system. Therefore it would be better if Grub called Xubuntu by it's proper name, in the Grub menu.

If possible, use the name of the default desktop system.

The GRUB menu references the kernel which in this case is an Ubuntu kernel. One does not boot into a Xubuntu kernel, but selects Xubuntu as the Desktop Environment when logging in. Please report any other issues you may find.

@micahg: but Linux Mint, which uses the Ubuntu kernel as well, manages to be identified in the Grub menu as Linux Mint.... Maybe Xubuntu can somehow use the same trick as Mint?

Linux Mint is not a part of the Ubuntu Archive. I would not want the flavors fighting for precedence in the GRUB menu. Right now, all the flavors should be able to happily co-exist on an installed system. The same kernel is shared by all except for Ubuntu Studio.

@Micah: But if you installed Xubuntu then you expect Xubuntu in the GRUB menu. Other flavors like Bodhi Linux also call themselves by name in the GRUB menu even though they're based on Ubuntu as well. So IMHO your argument is invalid for Xubuntu; for Mint you're right, they should fix that themselves.

^ That.

If you have several flavors installed, what do you propose to do? (e.g., introducing a priority system to decide what *ubuntu string should appear isn't that funny, and forcing one is the same as the current state)

@Lionel: But what about the average user, the reason that the *buntus exist? One would install Xubuntu and then read Ubuntu and get all confused and eventually boot in Xubuntu anyway. It's such an easy fix so it shouldn't be worth the confusion.
