TV season Specials (Season 0) sorts to 2nd position in set

I've tried to figure this one out, but the difficulty I'm having is in the sorting of Season 0 compared to other seasons... ALL of my TV series are in one folder for a particular show.... IF....I have no .NFO files for any of the series then For some (and this is the difficulty) series The specials sort to the second location....giving season 1, season 0, season 2, season 3...... i.e. Dirty Jobs, Man vs Wild..... For others (Mythbusters) it works correctly (IMHO) Season 0 is 1st....followed by seasons 1,2,3,4.... IF....I have ONE .NFO file that matches my first special's file name... i.e. 'TVSHOW.S00E01 - EPNAME.nfo' for 'TVSHOW.S00E01 - EPNAME.avi' and I place an order # of "1" in the sets area of that one .NFO file...the specials will sort LAST...!(this is particularly strange, because I read the Wiki as saying a set order will override all other sort preferences)

In testing this, I ran this having YAMJ JUST using a libraries file defining just the one TVSHOW, looking at the different series in question as if it were a fresh install... With no .NFO or sort order specified, I would think Specials would always sort before the actual seasons...If this is true then something is causing Season 1 to sort before season 0.

If you use the XBMC style NFO format with sets, setting "1" only gives that season an order, all others are undefined and so equal to "0", hence they show first. In general sorting of sets should be based on Name/Year, although for TV seasons it should be Name/Season.

Looking at the ALL list of episodes for Dirty Jobs, I see that season 1 (2003) comes first by Year because the first specials only came in 2005... that explains why the order is wrong.

I agree with you that it should be Name/Season but some might argue that those specials are meant to be watched after Season 1... not just this series but others like Lost, etc.

Probably need another properties option for TV series sort by Year or Season, although I would rather see this on a per show basis inside the NFO file.

I 100% agree on the inside the NFO for per show basis. I knew that for Movies the sets sorted in Year order, but I didn't think TV series did, I've looked at the other series I had difficulty with and that is the perfect explanation as to why it was behaving that way....that was the confusion. Never even thought to look at the TV series years, as I thought it only sorted by Name/Season# ... thanks!... This isn't a big issue then because YAMJ at least is doing what it should be doing...i.e. NOT a defect, this would be a minor enhancement that can be manipulated using the "order" #....which is what I'm going to do to set them in the order I prefer.

I think an explanation of this in the WIKI on sets is all that is needed really, just to explain the sort order a little better...

I have only 1 of a dozen tv shows where this happens. It actually appears to be related to how unix doesn't sort the file system as you load it, so you can have 0 come after 1 because you created the folder for it. I have been able to fix most of my tv seasons by copying the folders to another drive and making sure 0 is the first season I move back into the folder. I do have 1 tv show (doctor who) where no matter what I try, season 0 always comes after 1.

In my testing this is totally based on the year of the first special, unless you specifically override the sort order. garp999 called this correctly.

NOTE: There are 3 different tv shows in this listing, actually now that yamj detects path changes, I'm about to add in 3 more spinoff shows into the folder. The only show in question is the doctor who 2005 which is in the folders 0,1,2,etc

the below is from an ssh session on my nas so you can see how unix shows the file structure, even from a windows machine, perl or php would load the folder/directory in the same order. You'll see in this case, I did get season 0 to show before 1 however in yamj, 1 comes before 0 in the set list.

I realise that this is a (very) old thread but I am also getting the exact same sorting issues with Doctor Who 2005 and also Dexter. The TV seasons are sorted out of order and I can't figure out for the life of me why this is. Did anybody get a resolution to the above?

TV Series are sorted, by default, in season order. You can specify a property to sort specials at the end of the list

If you have NFO files with order attributes (<set order="?") then they will be respected.
