Two password prompts at startup #14

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

When I set Master Password+ to "ask for password on startup", I get two
password prompts on browser startup.

The first prompt seems to be triggered by MP+, the second one by Firefox
itself. Why do I suspect that? When I set MP+ to lock the browser if the
password prompt is being canceled, it only locks when I cancel the first prompt.

When I disable "ask for password on startup", it still get a password prompt,
but nothing happens if I cancel it.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Only one password prompt would be nice.

What Master Password+ version?
1.15.4

On what Firefox/Thunderbird version?
4.0

On what operating system?
Windows 7 HP 64bit SP1

Greetings, Jost

Does it show you second prompt even if you enter the correct password in first
prompt?

Do you have enabled "auto logout" under "startup" section of the options
window? If you have and the number is very low, I could assume that is the
cause..

Auto-logout under the startup tab is unchecked.

Oh, and by the way:
I have this behavior with two PCs running Windows 7 HP 64bit and Firefox 4. On
one of these PCs, there are two Firefox-profiles instakled and both profiles
show this behavior.

Well, lets try step by step approach (I still can't reproduce it)

1) When first prompt shows it shows BEFORE actual window is opened, correct?
2) The second prompt shows AFTER window is opened, if so, does the MP+ icon
shows red or green at that point?
3) is previous session restored when you start you browser or it opens default
homepage?

1) Yes.
2) No. The second prompt also shows before the window is opened.
3) Previous session is being restored.

can you set a simple password like "1" and see if it still reproducible and not
incorrect password?

Did that. I still get two password prompts.

I had installed the Startup Master add-on before I switched to MP+. Maybe, the
second prompt is an old setting from Startup Master?

I checked about:config, but couldn't find any entries from Startup Master.

If both extensions installed, then it's sure is the case, because both have
similar approach in prompting for password.
Still please try on a fresh profile, to make sure nothing else is interferences.

I have deinstalled Startup Master before installing MP+

I have tried with a fresh profile now. Everything works okay, there. So maybe
there is some options left over from Startup Master? Might also be another
extension interfering, though.

How can I find out?

It's the addon siphon that interferes.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/siphon-add-on-synchronizer/

I've deactivated all other addons and then reactivated them one-by-one. Only
when siphon is activated, the two password prompts appear.

That addon is not compatible with FF4, in fact it's broken, at least no options
window showed when I tried open it.
But with it's default settings I still couldn't reproduce the double password
prompt...

I just had some weird thing happened. After entered correct password the
browser showed for a split a second and then restarted, after entered password
second time browser window showed as a tiny square on top left corner of the
screen. This did happened to me once before, but only my "main" profile with
over 60 installed extensions...
Is this the same what you experience?

No. I get both password prompts before I even see the browser window.

Sorry for the delay, by the way. My internet connection is not working right
now. So I have to check my internet stuff at work.
