https://digital.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/terms.html This isn't totally clear to me. Looks like it's ok as long as acknowledgement is given, but their comment about not manipulating images is potentially problematic; e.g. if we trim an image to extract just the illustration, is that manipulating it?

I think it should be fine to transform the images for analytic purposes. My understanding is they just don't want images displayed in a distorted or manipulated manner. It could be worthwhile asking Joan Emmett (or another legal scholar at Yale, as she's leaving) for a read...
