David and I worked through this Git article sent to us from Casey: https://help.github.com/articles/dealing-with-line-endings
We just followed the steps and git stopped reporting the modifications, indicating that the issue was probably associated with the LF vs. CRLF line endings as we suspected.
I am going to review with Casey and then we will commit the changes to the repo and close this issue if no further problems arise.
Branch 217_line-endings fixed the issue and was merged in, so this issue has been resolved!
After cloning master into my local machine and then running git status, git reports unstaged changes even though I have not made any changes.
Trying to commit the changes to a separate branch causes warnings, and the changes persist even after committing and then checking out the master branch.
The problem may be associated with LF vs. CRLF line endings.
