It might be useful to have an IM style chatbox for everyone logged in to a shift so that people who are concurrently on shifts across campus communicate. This would be helpful in particular for communication between io and TTO STs to swap links and info that would be difficult to give over the phone.
Currently Voxer is used for this purpose, but it would be nice if a chat solution were integrated directly into Shifts, and not provided via a third-party interface with a third-party login. If there is an IRC gem (for example) which could display a chat box for all on-shift users on the Current Shift Report page (for example), this could be very useful and allow quick communication between all on-shift STC employees. We could eventually target separate chatrooms for admins and regular staff (or by user type), but I think that is a much lesser priority than in-house inter-tech communication.
