This PR fixes bugs probably related to newer versions of dependencies and also several minor bugs.

The one reported in #38.
A bug in calculate_amplitude. The case where no peaks are detected in an ODE solution must be handled explicitly to avoid possible ArgumentError.
Missing variable definitions in simulation_tests.jl.

Additionally, following dependencies that are not strictly required are removed from the project:
