Refactoring
We must review 2 elements:
Categories
Using the files received by @coolseed, the creator of Socicon, the categories of each icon were fixed at “Brands”. We can see that again. In one of its build files, the following categories were identified:
We need to insert them into the correct icons.
Tags
Likewise, for tags, we have a very very long list (180 items). Their listing should be reviewed to be more coherent and effective. Currently the list is as follows:
We can say that tags on the brand name (example: apple, adobe, etc.) can be removed. Likewise, the plural or singular must be removed to favor the “neutral” version. Example: photo, photos, photographer, photography => photo. Words that are not understandable by themselves must be removed: "+1", "360", "3D". We need to use meaningful words. Example: “3D” -> “3D printing”? “3D movie”?
Objective
The objective of this work is to be able to improve the icon search engine. Sites presenting icon fonts offer filters by category. We could draw inspiration from this concept today. First, we can review the icon categories to be as relevant as possible. Indeed, the tags may be too numerous for a filter/facet search engine.
