Play Store Youtube Center #510

Open darney53 opened 10 years ago

darney53 commented 10 years ago

I am no longer able to use my Youtube Center crx. extention in Google Chrome, ask to contact developer to have them submit extention to Google to be offered in Play store. Google has blocked/disabled all extentions not offered through Play Store. Neither can you re-enable them. This has caused tons of Chromes users a problem. Hope this messgae reaches the right person. Did not know how to directly contact YePpha. chrome ver 35 extentions

Eliteneet commented 10 years ago

you have to uninstall and reinstall the extension to get access to it again, atleast until you restart the browser.

darney53 commented 10 years ago

Yes I know that, did it yesterday. Was hoping their would be a change or compliance with Google. So I won't have to do that every time I want to download from YouTube. On Jun 10, 2014 6:59 PM, "Eliteneet" notifications@github.com wrote:

mcpower commented 10 years ago

Another workaround is to unzip the .crx to a folder, and drag the folder into Chrome.

BradDodi commented 10 years ago

Yeah, I did what mcpower said. Unziped the .crx file and dragged it in as a developer extension. Still pretty annoying though, as a notification pops up each time you launch Chrome.

Would it be possible for the developers to add Youtube Center to the Chrome Store as a "hidden" extension? I know that Youtube Center isn't allowed because it breaks some of their rules, but I'm not sure if that still applies for hidden ones.

Taken from the Chrome Forums - "You can upload it to the webstore and publish it in a "hidden" state so that only people with the link, or people in a set of trusted tester users, can install it."

darney53 commented 10 years ago

I see from your explanation that Google will not allow Youtube Center in Chrome store. So I guess my only alternative is to remove the extension and then drag it back in whenever I want to download from YouTube. Since Chrome is my default browser. Well I prefer YTC to Realdownloader any day. Hope this changes in future.

BradDodi commented 10 years ago

You can enable Developer mode on the extensions page, then unzip the .crx file into a folder and drag that folder into the page. That works fine, with it enabled each time you launch Chrome. It'll also keep the Youtube Center settings saved.

The only annoying thing about that is you'll receive this message upon launching Chrome: http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fpuu.sh%2F9pcUQ%2F7b77e6054f.png&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNFE6rTuD75t3yZZBfmzGREUjAwEeg

I guess it's a solution for now at least. Be sure to complain on the large thread about the change on the Google Chrome forums: :+1: https://productforums.google.com/forum/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer#!category-topic/chrome/2yTVWdfC4Gg%5B501-525-false%5D

I have the file saved on my computer, but it is not in a folder by itself. Do I need to re-download the zip extract it to a folder by itself, then drag that whole folder into Chrome extensions. This will keep it enabled every time I open Chrome? On Jun 11, 2014 4:47 PM, "BradDodi" notifications@github.com wrote:

Yep, that's it.

As far as I know, the folder can't be deleted after adding it to Chrome (unlike the normal .crx files) so put it in a good location. Also, make sure the "Developer mode" checkbox is ticked: http://puu.sh/9puH1/1815228c95.png

Thanks a ton Brad, I was getting tired of reinstalling every time I opened chrome.

darney53 commented 10 years ago

Where do I find the file in zip form? I have the single file, but searched and cannot find it in zip form to re-download and follow your instructions.

I found the zip file, extracted crx into a folder. Tried to drag folder into Chrome extensions but got message that it cannot read file in folder. What should I name the folder?

Hey Brad, I tried what you said and this popped up:

https://i.imgur.com/V0HXNf8.jpg

It might be what darney53 is going through.

BradDodi commented 10 years ago

Hey.

You're meant to extract the .crx file itself into a folder, then drag and drop that folder onto the extensions page.

You only need the latest .crx file: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13162258/YouTube%20Center/YouTubeCenter.crx (link taken from the Youtube Center download page)

Extracting it will give these files: http://puu.sh/9q9ab/68c0acc87f.png

You can name the folder whatever you like - doesn't make a difference.

Sorry if I was unclear. :+1:

darney53 commented 10 years ago

Tried to drag folder into extensions, but it did not work, only crx file alone. On Jun 12, 2014 6:41 AM, "BradDodi" notifications@github.com wrote:

Awesome, it worked.

darney, have you extracted the contents of the .crx file? You can open it with a program like 7zip, and extract the contents into the folder. Then drag that folder onto the extensions page.

darney53 commented 10 years ago

Thanks for giving me the breakdown and what to look for. I didn’t realize that I could extract the crx file into a folder since it did not download as a zip. But what you showed me; to see in the folder helped. Before I was just putting the crx file in a folder and getting an error message every time I dragged it into the Chrome extensions. This time it worked and installed. Thx for breaking it down for me.

Blackbird88 commented 10 years ago

What rules does YT Center break? I mean even Ablock and Ghostery are in store and those pretty much kill all their ads and tracking.

BradDodi commented 10 years ago

AFAIK, it's because Youtube Center allows people to download the videos. Apparently Google are okay with blocking ads but not downloading Youtube videos.

I might be wrong though, so feel free to correct me.

YePpHa commented 10 years ago

@Blackbird88 Google does not allow extension in the webstore that violates their terms of service. In their terms of service for YouTube it specifically states that you are not allowed to download YouTube videos. So I am not allowed to include the download feature in the webstore version of YouTube Center. So it will be specifically disabled for the webstore only. I've seen instances of YouTube video downloader taken down from the webstore.

darney53 commented 10 years ago

Thx for confirming this. I am now aware that Google will not allow any type of YouTube down-loader to be in the Chrome Store. I was not aware at first, but after checking around, I came to this realization. Anyway your extension was my answer to viewing or listening to YouTube stuff, without having to sit at my computer or always go to the site; if there was something of interest to me, on YouTube.

BradDodi commented 10 years ago

Are you allowed to provide instructions for installing the full version within the Chrome Store extension? (Installing using Development Mode for example)

Personally, I refuse to abide by Google's rules and now the ridiculous extension blocking, so I'll always be using the full version.

YePpHa commented 10 years ago

I am not sure if I am allowed to actually do that in the Webstore, but I can probably inform people on how to install the full version on the website I am creating.

darney53 commented 10 years ago

Hey my YTC has stopped working, is there a newer version from 2.1.0. If so please send me download link for full version.

YePpHa commented 10 years ago

If you just want the "stable" version of YouTube Center, which is v2.1.5 you can find the download links here or if you want to use the developer version you can find the download links here.

darney53 commented 10 years ago

Thx, I got it v2.1.5. How can I know when you do updates, so I can stay current?

darney53 commented 9 years ago

Is V2.1.7 build #471

darney53 commented 9 years ago

I think I have installed the latest version, but was does this message mean highlighted in pink (here were warnings when trying to install this extension: Unrecognized manifest key 'old_id'.)
