I think I had the same problem with a few versions ago, basically the player is not set to a certain aspect ratio any longer by the recent releases of Youtube Center so it will auto-adjust itself to the size of the video that it is playing.
What this means is that if the video that you are watching is 4:3 then the player will become 4:3, if it is 9:10 then the player will also become 9:10, just like the one in your screenshot, etc. In conclusion, the player is letting the video itself choose which size the player will be. In your screenshot the video is originally a tall and narrow video so the player adjusted itself and it too became tall and narrow like the video.
The fix is simple, go to Youtube Center Settings > Player > Player Size > Player aspect > 16:9
This way the player will always be locked at the default aspect ratio of 16:9, which is the default youtube aspect ratio (someone correct me if I am wrong).
By the way, the recent version of youtube center (378) might not have this problem anymore, update it as well because it is possible that it fixes your problem without the need to do what I suggested above.
Let me know if this fixed your problem.
378 doesn't fix the issue; I'll try the forced 16:9 aspect ratio, but it would be nice if there was some check to make sure the entire video is viewable (both height and width) within the viewport.
@tsimmons I should probably try to make a max height and max width setting.
@YePpHa I think maybe setting the default aspect ratio to 16:9 will be a better approach, this way the users will not have limitations imposed and it is far simpler than to build a new set of rules.
I agree with @Yonezpt, I had the same problem and I adjusted the player ratio to 16:9. It's a great idea setting 16:9 as the default aspect ratio on future releases.
I will set the default aspect ratio to 16:9 in future releases of YouTube Center as suggested.
I'm not sure what option controls this, but vertical videos always get cropped and sized too large for my screen (they should fit vertically, but don't.)
Here's what they look like without YouTube Center:
Here's what they look like with YouTube Center enabled (in Chrome 36.0.1985.143; YTC dev. 376)
It appears the resize algorithm crops the black bars from the vertical video, then fits that to width, which extends the video taller than than the viewport and requires scrolling to see the whole thing.
Here are my player resize options:
Thanks & Cheers,
