"Settings.LegacyFeatureSettings.UseLegacyGripEquip.Description": "When enabled, you can equip tools and gadgets by pressing grip twice in rapid succession. This setting will likely get removed at some point.", dont remove this its way better than going through the menu to equip dont remove features

We could consider keeping this on as an option as actual feature.

Why do you use this instead of the context menu option though?

I'm not op, but personally it's faster. Context menus are inherently slower than gesture based actions

because like tisfoolish says its much quicker to do doublegrip or doubleclick to equip/deequip and avoiding to press extra buttons is important for vr usage. equipping via context menu is 2 extra bbutton presses incl moving wrist to the correct button to equip so the double grip is just way more convienient. so please keep this option as actual feature. especially on tools with lot of context button pressing the deequip is more difficult. so keep double grip to equip/deequip as option
