Switches between VR Mode and Screen Mode when pressing the F8 key while typing in TextEditor #2825

Open blhsrwznrghfzpr opened 1 month ago

Describe the bug?

When typing long sentences, it is common to switch to Screen Mode and type without wearing the HMD. In Japanese text input using IME, the F8 key is sometimes used for character conversion. However, when typing in Screen Mode, attempting to use F8 for conversion will switch the mode back to VR.

To Reproduce

  1. Launch Resonite in VR Mode and switch to Screen Mode.
  2. Click on the TextEditor and begin typing.
  3. While typing, press F8.

Expected behavior

Switching between VR and Screen Mode with the F8 key should not occur while typing.

Additional Context

I believe this is related to the Japanese IME, but I’m not entirely sure. https://github.com/Yellow-Dog-Man/Resonite-Issues/issues/745

Additionally, other keys such as F2/F5/F6 seem to be disabled while typing.

Additional context from #2826 (duplicate)

In general, Japanese (as well as Korean and Chinese) input on a computer is done using a system called an Input Method Editor (IME). In these languages, there is often no one-to-one correspondence between keyboard input (pronunciation) and the character you want to input. Therefore, the IME accepts the input of characters that indicate pronunciation and converts them into the desired word. (In Japan, the IME is a fairly widespread system, and many people know that when entering characters on a computer, hiragana is entered and converted, but there are by no means a few people who do not know the term IME.)

In the case of Japanese, alphabetic input is automatically replaced by hiragana by the IME, and then converted to katakana, kanji, etc. by pressing the “conversion key” (a key unique to Japanese keyboards). In addition, because Japanese speakers handle many types of characters on their computers, shortcuts are assigned to the F6 to F10 keys to convert directly to each type of character. This bug occurs because the conversion to half-width katakana overlaps with the F8 key.

I also find this bothersome as Japanese input user. While it's more of a feature request than a bug report, I would appreciate the option to reassign the keys currently mapped to the F keys to different keys.

General key rebinding would be covered by #23 @akiRAM2. There are probably still ways this behaviour can be improved, e.g. disabling the F8 key from hotswitching while a text input is focused. Seeking input from @Frooxius.
