Make "suppress feet simulation" a permanent setting #2930

Closed Stellanora64 closed 1 week ago

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

For the feet suppression setting under misc it is noted it will be removed later. I request that it does not get removed due to its utility in easily disabling the IK / animation system for fully body tracking users that want a similar experience to other vr platforms (e.g. vrchat).

For instance, when sitting down with fbt the walking animation can be distracting.

Describe the solution you'd like

Make the suppress feet simulation setting permanent.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Adding the component manually to your avatar that achieves the same results, or adjusting the IK manually.

Additional Context

if u want to disable walking animation you can use the body horizontal angle setting (which is not going away) and set it to 0 to disable animation.

@art0007i I know, I did mention editing the IK in the issue. The setting I believe is just more convent for newer users, and can be toggled on or off depending on if they are using fbt or not. Sorry you are correct about the setting, totally missed that

We will not be making this permanent for a few reasons:

1) This is designed specifically to make a legacy content work - notably content that does something we advise not to do. As such, this setting is not designed to exist permanently - eventually there will be a time where its existence will prove burdensome to maintain the code and we'll just remove it. Keeping it in that situation can add a lot of work and make future changes more complicated - especially since you're asking it to to be used for something it's not even designed for 2) There is a component designed to suppress this system, which you can incorporate into your setups and avatars. This is meant to be the longer term solution for content. The setting is provided as a convenience when you don't have an updated system yet 3) For the specific problem you are mentioning, there already is a proper setting under Controls -> Full Body Tracking -> Body Horizontal Angle. Increasing this value will stop the feet animation when using full body.

I generally recommend asking for a solution to a particular problem, rather than asking for a certain feature to be "abused" for something you want. There are other and much better solutions and if you ask us to codify something that's ultimately a hack, you're very likely to just get a No as an answer - but you'll get yes to a more general request to solve a particular problem.

If you have any specific issues you want solved, I recommend making issue about those instead, without focusing on exactly how.

@Frooxius That's fair, I did not know there was already a setting for this specifically for fbt. Sorry for the misunderstanding
