Selection Mode for Dev Tip has a few issues #77

Open Ruikio opened 1 year ago

Ruikio commented 1 year ago

Describe the bug?

When the Resonite Dev Tips are in:

Selection Mode: Single - You no longer are able to select two objects for quick selection or snapping

Selection Mode: Multi - When selecting multiple things (More than two), you run into the potential problem of selecting, which deselects, an object. The problem then comes... you can't reselect the object immediately unless you select something else entirely to THEN come back or Deselect All just to be able to click it again.

To Reproduce

Selection: Single - Try to select more than 1 thing

Selection: Multi - Select something, then deselect it by selecting it again... then try to select it again.

Expected behavior

Selection: Single - To be able to quickly move and snap two things. (When you select a second item, the gizmo should disappear from the first. This allows you to do things like... snap objects to each other's bounding boxes.

Selection: Multi - Select freely

Additional Context

I know the irony of having Selection: Single select two items. However, Single should have the newest selected the gizmo and the prior one just a bounding box.

Selection: Multi makes EVERYTHING have the gizmo. Not the affect I'd want.

It'd be nice to roll back to how they acted on the prior platform.

This unfortunately slows down process for doing things in game like building.

Adding on to this, the current behavior adds friction to working with primitives, when using multi-select mode there is no clear indicator what selected object is the "primary" selection. The current functionality also makes changing your primary selection very frustrating, because you cannot reliably switch it to another object if that object is already selected.

I am assuming the issue here lies with single select mode being incapable of selecting more than one object now, I would argue that multi-select mode as it exists currently is not a decent replacement for the old functionality of single select mode.

From my perspective I see two preferable changes;
