Smokeview text color #453

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Version 5.2.2-5.2.4
OS : WIN XP

Sometimes the text is black, sometimes the text is green (see attached
file) and sometimes the color change (black/green) when I move from
picture to picture. I have tested this on two different computers with the
same result. These are the same computers that I have used for FDS the
past two years.

I see the green in your PNG file. What do you need to do to make the text
green ?
Load the slice file and smoke. Can you send me your .fds file and details on
what
needs to be done in Smokeview to reproduce the problem.

I went through a lot of cases, and there is only two cases that behave like
this.
Both are cases I recently converted from FDS4, so there might be me doing
something
wrong - but both cases run ok with the latest FDS. The phenomenon occurs when I
load
3D smoke – sot mass fraction, not when I only load a slice.

Enclosed you find mbs.fds that changes between black and green text. I also add
trapp.fds that gives a blue text - see trapp_0194.png

I'm having trouble reproducing the problem but Trapp.fds is only out to 36
seconds
now. Does the problem occur before 58.2 as in your .png ? Did you create any
.ini
files for this case - if so, could you post them back. Which version of FDS
are you
using to tun the case (type fds5 without a casename.fds file and send back the
results). I assume the problem occurs with both smokeviews 5.2.2 and 5.2.4 ?

The phenomenon occurs from start. It might be something related to the logic
functions, which means that you may have to run the case in FDS until they are
activated. I will do some more investigations later to day.

FDS version is 5.2.0

I went back to Smokeview 5.15, and everything is OK on both computers. Then I
tested
this on a third computer. The phenomenon seems to have something to do with the
video card. One computer has a Radeon X800XT, a second has Radeon X1650 PRO and
the
third has Sapphir HD2400 PRO. The phenomenon does only occur on the computers
with
Radeon X800 and X1650, not on the Sapphir HD2400.

Go to the "About Smokeview" menu and see what version of OpenGL is running.
Also see
what messages if any are there regarding the GPU.

The computer with Radeon X800XT has Open GL 2.0.5819, The one with HD2400 has
Open
GL 2.0.6645

If I describe the fire this way it gives me text with black color :
&SURF ID='FIRE', HRRPUA=500., COLOR='RED' /
&OBST XB=6.6,8.4, 7.0,9.0, 4.0,4.2, SURF_IDS='FIRE','INERT','INERT' /

If I describe it this way it gives me blue text :
&SURF ID='FIRE', HRRPUA=500., COLOR='RED' /
&OBST XB=6.6,8.4, 7.0,9.0, 4.0,4.2 /
&VENT XB=6.6,8.4, 7.0,9.0, 4.2,4.2, SURF_ID='FIRE' /

The OpenGL version is not an issue since they are both some variant of version
2. I
don't think this is a SMokeview problem as it is behaving correctly on a
different
computer. You could checking your video drivers to see if they need to be
updated
(are out of date). You could also play around with the hardware acceleration
settings on the video card

Updating the video drivers solved the problem, so I think this issue can be
closed

Glad it is working now. Thanks for reporting back. (Note to kevin and bryan
this is
an example of how video drivers can mess things up for Smokeview!)
