There appears to be a value in your state file that isn't a standard ascii
char. Please post your RAIL_STATE file.

Thanks for the reply, I posted the original manually configured RAIL_STATE
which I edited through notepad, and what happens everytime I used your GUI
program.

ive got the same problem
-os: win7 pro 64bit, uac disabled
-pyRO-RAIL v208_2.exe (window title says v208.1)
-fresh RO-RAIL install
error upon starting pyRO-RAIL v208_2.exe:
Couldn't find file:
error after loading the RAIL_State.homu.lua then hit on Apply button:
The file location specified points to a non-valid existing file.
pyRO-RAIL has not made changes to this file; please point
pyRo-RAIL to either a new file or a valid existing state file.
it can create its own files but its not writing anyting in them when you hit
Apply,
however it does write "rail_state = " in them when you close the GUI and refers
to the log file.

OS: Windows XP SP3 32-bit
EXE: pyRO-RAIL v208_2.exe (window title says 208.1 as well)
Fresh RO-RAIL install
Same error dialog boxes as above. The file is apparently not valid, and when
the program exits it replaces the file's contents with "rail_state = "
The program simply doesn't work for me.

OS Windows 7 64bit
EXE: pyRO-RAIL v208_2.exe (latest one as of today 22july)
Fresh RO-Rail install on IRO Valk Server
Instal path: C:\Games\Iro (not either programs folder on 64bit as it can cause
trouble)
Doesn't write to the file like the above posters, if you tell to write a few
times it just deletes everything in the file and replaces it with:
1 rail_state =
my solution so far is to use pyRO-RAIL v208_1.exe, a temp solution not
mentioned by anyone so far, and if anyone is reading this issue page like i
was, i really suggest doing that.
Hopefully this goes a way to prove that it isn't coincidental user error as i
can use the older version, if you need any more information to narrow down the
problem i am watching this space.

I got exactly the same problem, with the same notifications. I'm using
pyRO-RAIL v208_1.exe like suggested and got no errors now.

Deanorea's (comment 5) suggestion worked for me.
*Edit* OP sys: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP 1
*Edit* Path: D:\Games\PC games\RO\
*Edit* Install state: 2 fresh installs of RAIL
pyRO-RAIL v208_2.exe emptied out my file on save leaving it invalid.
pyRO-RAIL v208_1.exe saves it properly.
For those unfamiliar (like I was) under downloads change the drop down from
"Current Downloads" to "Depreciated Downloads" and search.
