Hi,

Need an option to control BIOS menu via mesh. is it possible to enter BIOS screen and change BIOS setting using mesh

jsastriawan commented 5 years ago

You can only use this on vPro/AMT machine. There is an API call to reboot to BIOS. Once the machine rebooted to BIOS, you can control it via HW Desktop or HW Terminal (Serial over LAN).

It works when AMT on CIRA or if MeshCentral is in LAN mode and the device is in an accessible network to MeshCentral.

The simple answer is no. Because without an operating system, you can not access anything. Obviously vPro/AMT is its own special OS on a chip to get network access and allow a connection.

@sorvani, this is the reason why @Ylianst and @krayon007 build MeshCentral 2. To provide an open source platform to manage vPro/AMT device over local network and cloud. @Ylianst is the ultimate expert of vPro/AMT at Intel. :)

Below is a vPro NUC that I have, I just rebooted it to BIOS to demonstrate that this capability exists in MC2.

Yes, AMT has special firmware. This is why AMT is special and being used by enterprise and IOT edge devices especially the systems that cost a lot of money to service. Imagine a device on a ceiling requiring ladder to service, a soda machine in a bus stop in the middle of nowhere, an industrial PC inside hazardous area or highly contaminated area.

@Ylianst has also added IDE-Redirection library which enables MC2 to remote connect an ISO file to a vPro/AMT machine for recovery too. You should try installing OS using this feature.

@Arun0711, let us know if this answers your question. It is only possible to remotely go into the BIOS screen by using Intel AMT KVM feature. If you remote computer does not have this, it's not possible. I will close this issue, but feel free to re-open if needed.

Thanks Ylian. I am fine to close. Let me checkout the option with AMT.
