Multiple Windows/Tabs For Multiple Displays #4982

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

We have been looking into using MeshCentral as a replacement to TeamViewer one feature we are definitely missing is the ability for us to open separate windows or tabs for each of the remote displays. This allows us to drag these windows and full screen them on multiple monitors on our local machines.

Describe the solution you'd like

Allow separating displays into multiple windows/tabs. Allowing you to override the default behavior which switches the selected display for all browsers.

Describe alternatives you've considered

We have used the MeshCentral Router Windows app and RDP to get around this somewhat temporarily but this has limited platform support and completely takes over all the displays. If a user had a large widescreen ultrawide on TeamViewer they can bring up multiple monitors in windows next to each other to span the remote computers monitors.

Additional context

This seems to be the only limitation we have found so far on the Mesh platform that keeps us from using it actively, all of our staff have a different work style and prefer different desktop configurations this flexibility is important to us for remote desktop. We would rather have a single powerful management software/remote desktop tool than multiple solutions hooked together to meet our needs.

Thank you!

I do that using Chrome Right click a tab and select 'duplicate' Then drag a tab to each screen

Pick your monitor at the bottom of the Meshcentral window

Better still you could RDP (using Mesh Router) and get all screens, and you can drag drop across screens, and even print locally. I use that a lot, and I set up clients to RDP to their own machines this way, as it uses my Mesh server as VPN and is secured by MFA

Interesting! I don't have that behavior on my install mine matches the video describing the multiple display feature.

If I duplicate the window for mesh and select a different display both windows change displays. I cannot select a different display in each window.

My issue with RDP was the same you cannot seperate the individual monitors into separate windows and this is especially true on platforms other than Windows.

Yes I can see mine does that today too. I wonder if I'd never noticed that behaviour, or if has changed...

When you RDP, do you use 'all monitors' in the RDP client 'display' tab

I have used RDP like that! Though support for all monitors in RDP varies by client.

The problem with this solution though is the displays aren't separate windows you cannot reposition them at will. If you full screen you will get separate displays but it will take over your entire desktop.

@OutbackMatt sadly ur steps dont work anymore, ive just tried it and when u switch displays on my tab, it switches on the other tab too :(

I came across this thread after seeing some mentions of doing this online and experiencing the same duplication others have described. Switch displays and the other window/tab snaps to the same one. Several people using my MeshCentral instance (including myself) remote into a fair number of machines for clients regularly that have two or three displays so it would be great to be able to have one remote display per local display. Excellent software but this would be an excellent quality of life change if it's feasible to revert or patch in this behavior.

Thank you!
