Despite the numerous Yoast updates in past days, the issue still remains: blank editor.
Why can't we get a fix for this :(
The same issue. Wordpress: 5.1.1 Yoast SEO: 10.1.3 If I disable Yoast SEO all is working.
I've since switched to Rank Math SEO - it even imports your Yoast data. My SEO is back at work and usable. Unfortunate, but it's taken way to long for Yoast to update this vital issue. I suggest you check out this plugin too.
The blank metabox is an issue that is most of the time not caused by Yoast itself, but has multiple different causes. When a plugin is interfering and causing javascript errors, this might cause problems rendering the metabox.
People coming along this thread I would advise to:
I just found this issue and it was a conflict with ACF Pro 5.7.12. Updating to v 5.7.13 fixed the issue.
Another plugin conflict:
3.1.0 Not working with YOAST Support for the Block Editor (Gutenberg) 3.0.1 Working fine
I am having same issue I already installed classic editor plugin
Previously there were so many javascript errors, looks like many plugins depend on classic editor after I installed classic editor, those errors gone, except Yoast js error
These appears to be a bug with classic Editor. Just switch to Gutenberg Editor and it'll be fine.
Having the same problem with WordPress 4.9.9. Do you still support it?

We have no choice but to update our WordPress core version to latest versions (5.0 and up). It's a bug caused by the latest version of Yoast, which conflicts with the Classic Editor of old versions of WordPress .
At the moment we still support 4.9.10, but once 5.3 hits the net we will drop support for any version below 5.2.
Having said that, we do still test with Classic Editor and 4.9.10 and experience no issues. Have you checked for plugin conflicts to see if it might be something else?
@Djennez I have checked and the error comes from your plugin. I posted details on wordpress.org support forum but no response:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/the-meta-box-is-blank/
PS: Dropping support for 4.x (major branch) is not a good option. I know WP recommends to support 2 major versions back, but it's applied for versions before 5.x. When WP switched to 5.x, it still maintains the branch 4.x (which shows in the plugin compatibility when you see an update of a plugin: 100% compatible with 4x according to the author). I hope you can keep maintaining it for 4.x.
The log shows our filenames, and the symptom is that our metabox is breaking, but that does not mean that the error is caused by us. So, have you performed the plugin conflict check? That isn't clear to me from your answer.
About the support for 4: Joost has written this article.
Don't worry. I have updated my website to WP 5.2.2 and the meta box is working again.
This is definitely a conflict with "Classic Editor" plugin. I've just had the same issue as everyone above. Meta box with classic editor was displaying blank. I was getting a JS error but id didn't seem related.
Performed plugin conflict, deactivating all plugins, meta box showed up (gutenberg style in the sidebar) reactivated all plugins except classic editor and meta box continued to show correctly in gutenberg sidebar.
Wordpress - v5.3 PHP - v7.1.33 Yoast - v11.6 Classic Editor - v1.5
Hi I also had this problem and corrected it That way I've disabled Classic Editor plugin. The problem is yoast seo with Classic Editor which should be Gutenberg
I am going to close this thread with the following reasoning:
I notice that this thread is about a year old, and it has been used to dump all errors that have the same symptom: the metabox is not working. However, multiple causes can lead to this symptom. Over the past year, we have seen, fixed and consciously "not fixed" multiple causes that would lead to the metabox not showing. Some of which are mentioned in this thread, some of which are not.
Because this thread contains too much noise, it's pretty inefficient to go after every comment and investigate it. Keeping this open isn't helpful for anyone, neither the Yoast team or the people experiencing issues.
So, how to continue this? If you still experience this issue, please do the following:
Please bear in mind that this is not broken by default. We are unable to reproduce these symptoms on an empty installation. Both with and without the classic editor (which we still support). We test every release with both editors and would not release the plugin if this is broken by default.
Follow the bug report guidelines and submit a new bugreport with as much information as possible, including all errors, steps to reproduce, and everything else you were able to find out. If we can't reproduce the issue and there are no errors, we can't investigate anything, so make sure to only submit valid bugreports.
Please give us a description of what happened.
After a recent round of updated (both WP and plugins) I noticed that the Yoast content optimization window in my post editor is blank. This seems to be identical to an issue posted some months ago in the WP forum (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/yoast-plugin-is-not-working-on-wordpress-4-9-8/) which was indicated to have been fixed with Yoast version 8.0. However, I'm using Version 9.2.1 and seeing the problem again (another user posted in the WP forum thread that he is also seeing the issue with 9.2.1.).
Please describe what you expected to happen and why.
How can we reproduce this behavior?
