10 years ago The whole %% variable replace functionality has been rewritten/refactored a little while back. The changes are available in the master branch of this github repo and will be included in the next release.
Your issue is therefore most likely solved already. If you find it's not after testing, please add additional information here and re-open the ticket.
In a recent site crawl I noticed that the template variables are showing in the site title tag and meta description. This is only for title tags or meta descriptions that are not custom created.
