Race and Ethnicity Categories Seem Incorrect #3

This was brought to my attention and it may be just the way the query is working, but I have noticed the breakdown seems to be at most: black/african american hawaiian pacific islander native american other

I can determine that other must include "white" , but what else does other include? Is there a way to query that breaks that down into more specific categories? Is this a function of how people fill out the ACS? I don't think that is the case because its a widespread trend.

Yeah, the missing "white" is from the bug that is not showing the first element sent back. The categories get really specific. They have the ones that you see plus a mix of each kind and some others. Example: hawaiian-african american and white-native american are options that can be returned.

We can:

  1. send them all back
  2. require specific ones to be requested (maybe send back a list with the valid ethnicity options?)

I see, so sending all of them would be a very extensive. Are we talking about 20 categories? 50 categories? or more?

If we select, for example african-american then does that include hawaiian-african american, white-african-american, asian-african american? or does it just include those that only specified african-american?
