Yuck. Any advice on how to make use of that painfully constructed, huge backup tarfile?
Please use YunoPaste to share logs. From the webadmin : Tools > Logs > select the failed install log > Share with YunoPaste button
You can restore backup from the webadmin too.
The upgrade failed for me as well. Here is my log: https://paste.yunohost.org/raw/hanoxerufu

It seems you ran out of disk space halfway:
2023-09-25 19:41:57,793: WARNING - error Could not write file "/var/www/mastodon/live/yarn-error.log": "ENOSPC: no space left on device, write"
Ah, that could be it. It seems the backup was 12gb, which seems rather large. Does Yunohost back up all the cached media from other instances?
Yes, if we don't backup cached media then it would causes issues within mastodon. And we can filter out subfolders in yunohost backups, yet.
You probably want to run tootctl media remove
before running the upgrade.
Mine is about 36 gigabytes, and it's still running, apparently trying to restore 4.1.9.
Failure finally completed. Takes a long time on a Raspberry Pi. "Uhoh ... Yunohost failed to restore the app to the way it was before the failed upgrade "
Warnings.

Not sure if this is significant, but I noticed it while upgrading, so here it is. [...]
