Sorry it took so long to reply.
More filtering methods are certainly possible, but I currently don't have plans to implement them myself. You're welcome to snag and modify the code as you see fit, and I'll certainly look at any pull requests that come through.
If you/anyone does want to extend it, they'll find I used the dumbest possible method to handle labels with any possible character: comma separated list, keeping whitespace, terminated by the end of the whole ghissues tag. That'll have to be improved if any other filtering method are added.
