PaperMC is a higher performance oriented fork of SpigotMC. All plugins should still be supported so there should not be much complication making the switch. https://papermc.io/

This is no longer a potential issue, as the SSD solved the serverproblems. We could try it just for shits and giggles, but it is no longer a potential necessity
