Views that relate to specific workflows such as Sponsor List, Volunteer List, Uploaded Files in Event Dashboard, need to have informative "blurbs" so users can see what they are supposed to do. For instance, if there are no Sponsors, have a short explanation of how a Sponsorship is formed. Perhaps we should have a few simple "wiki" howtos (very short articlel, maybe with lotsa screenshots?)

nope. just on-page messages. keep it simple, remember.

we need to crank out some Javascript of coolness so we can have these show up on a page with the usual "x" or whatever to close them if the user gets sick of them. but on-page messages is the way to go. as in Twitter, Dropbox, etc.

the box(es) on the user home page is a (are) good example(s). those little "Hide" links (well, they should be little) should be active. they should hide the boxes. this way, when you get to an empty page you have text telling you what to do; as you do it, or as you hide the text, it clears out to make room for the things filling the page.
