Whenever I try to open and install the file, instead of opening the jar file, it just shows the little loading symbol for less than a second and then never opens. I have tried jarfix, command prompt, reinstalling, and looked online. Nothing seems to work. My computer can run mods and stuff and java was working when I tried to download optifine, so how is it broken all of a sudden? What do I do, is your file broken, or is it just me?

OptiForge is just a Forge mod, so it doesn't install like OptiFine normally does. In fact, if you are using OptiForge, you aren't supposed to directly open/install the .jar for either OptiForge or OptiFine.

The readme's install instructions are from the original version of OptiForge 1.17.1, which is outdated, and has been for quite some time. They do still technically say you are supposed to put OptiForge directly in the mods folder, but I can see how the part regarding OptiFine itself may have confused you. You can find a corrected version of the readme at this link, but basically, just put both OptiForge's and OptiFine's jars in the mods folder and launch with Forge.

Hey i've tried putting both files in the mods folder with like 4 different modpacks and they all fail to launch. Is installation different for modpacks or is there some mod incompatibility or something because it aint working.

I've got it working with the latest versions of OptiFine, OptiForge, and Forge, all for 1.17. If you're sure you've put the mods in correctly, then some sort of other mod incompatibly seems like the most likely reason. Try it with a fresh install, with just Forge, OptiFine, and OptiForge and see if that works.

Ok i tried it with just forge and yeah putting both optifine and optiforge in instances>modpack>mods folder causes it to crash. Is there a problem with the versions i'm using? It's OptiFine_1.17.1_HD_U_G9 and OptiForge-MC1.17.1-0.1.1

I tried installing optifine to curseforge>minecraft>install and i get a message saying optifine is outdated and i need OptiFine_1.17.1_HD_U_H1_pre2 or newer

E: ok i tried the preview version of optifine and it worked on an empty modpack

Ok yeah the problem was with the version of optifine, not knowing that the previews are what's considered the latest version. Noob mistake!
