Enhancement: make it easier to toggle night mode #248

There are a lot of steps required to turn night mode on and off - it would be 
nice to reduce these.  The other "settings" are preferences which most users 
probably don't change very often whereas night mode is something that users may 
switch on and off all the time.  So could it be removed from the "preferences" 
and available directly in the main menu?
