I bet the Left 4 Dead campaign model is heavily influencing how I want the game to play out. Always on the move, but with safehouses as way stations on the way to an escape. Escaping seams like the natural end point, but how else can a survival game play out once survival needs are met?

Maybe this is the story of how the vaults formed in the first place? Like, I liked the idea of managing a small colony/vault of people in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that grows and expands into a post-post apocalyptic story. Maybe even becoming civ-like.

I also like the idea of you playing the part of someone exploring a desolate infested city in search of something, but you are cut off from any kind of outside supply line. Or get cut off and have to build that level of support on your own.

What if I borrow the underground railroad from half-life 2? Where you are tasked with creating a waystation that is just one part of an underground railroad? Aka, you have to explore an area and find/build the safe route through the dangers so others can escape.
