[inquiry] Is merl/impaler supposed to miss that hard on units around half of its attack radius? #885

Merl misses shot after shot to a visible non-moving unit situated around half of merl's attack range on a completely flat map:

Is this by design?

As @Anarchid pointed out, it's actually not "hard miss", but rather Merl's physical inability to hit the desired spot.

It's a wrong behavior. New engine versions are to blame, since on 98-451 and 91.0 it works fine.
