Files on Linux need to be chmod +x to execute. Zip files can't encode this, so I have to manually chmod +x a bunch of stuff to get it running.

Ship a tarball (.tar.gz) instead.

I suppose you could ask people to manually mark all the binaries as execute in the README, but that's unpleasant.
