Issues with BibTex import and display #250

Closed JensL70 closed 4 years ago

I use Zkn3.3.1, but I noticed some issues with Authors (Literatur). First, I use JabRef for creating a .bib file. Below you will find an example entry of it. The format seems to be correct, when I compare it to similar Google-Scholars entries.

@Article{Mathews1974,
  author  = {Mathews, Peter and Schele, Linda},
  journal = {Primera Mesa Redonda de Palenque Part I},
  title   = {Lords of Palenque -- The Glyphic Evidence},
  year    = {1974},
  pages   = {63--70},
  volume  = {1},
}

After importing it into Zkn an Authors entry is created as expected. But it will be displayed as following:

Mathews P, Schele (1974: Lords of Palenque -- The Glyphic Evidence Primera Mesa Redonda de Palenque Part , , 63--7 (Bibkey: Mathews1974)

What I have noticed, that in every entry it seems to be the last character is missing. Like in Author the "L" for "...Schele L", the ")" in the year. A "I" in the journal (should be "...Part I"). The "1" in the volume. And a "0" in the pages (for "63-70"). Also a comma is missing between the title and journal. (probably it is the same issue as above?) Finally the two dashes, should be displayed as a hyphen, and if not possible maybe as a single dash. (in the title and pages; probably in all entries)

Thanks!

I think this was already fixed with #216, I just haven't had the time to release version v3.3.2 yet. This will hopefully happen soon though

JensL70 commented 4 years ago

Ok, thanks! Hope to get the new version soon. And I hope it also fixes the hyphen issue (double dashes)

Cool to hear that this issue has been fixed! There is, however, another problem with the import of bibtex entries (I am joining this existing issue as my problem may have been already fixed as well in the next version - though it may be a completely different problem...!?)

Using zotero in combination with betterbibtex, the latter exports entries using best practice with a view to character encoding (title casing, Umlaute, etc.). However, Zettelkasten does not translate these strings correctly, storing references like this:

Affolderbach (2020: \"Offentlichkeit von Unten. Demokratie, \"Offentlichkeit und Politische Bildung Wiesbade: Springer V

This is even more problematic if, for example, the author's name starts with an Umlaut (or any special character) - which means that I cannot even search for the author's name within Zettelkasten!

Is there any solution for this problem?

@Frankenluemmel

However, Zettelkasten does not translate these strings correctly

What would the correct translation look like?

What would the correct translation look like?

Öffentlichkeit instead of \"Offentlichkeit...

@Frankenluemmel

Öffentlichkeit instead of \"Offentlichkeit...

I feel, it has to be {\"O}. See zotero: German Umlauts in BibTeX export

@Frankenluemmel

Öffentlichkeit instead of \"Offentlichkeit...

I feel, it has to be {\"O}.

I did some manual experiments with my bib-file - and you're absolutely right! Thus, it seems to be rather a betterbibtex- than Zettelkasten-related problem...

Thanks for your reply anyway!
