Adding Products - unwanted "Is New" setting Automatically set #18

After adding a product the "Is New" setting is automatically turned on and there is no way to turn it off. Not every product added to the list needs to show up in the "New" list. The toggle in the Admin does not work. I even turned the status to "0" in the database but it gets turned back on by some setting. Once the product is added - it appears as a duplicated item (appears twice) in my storefront. When I add it to the shopping cart, it gets added into the shopping cart twice. When I try to delete one - they both get deleted.
