Uploaded files not detected by media gallery

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Upload a movie or picture to card.
2. Check Media Gallery; uploaded file is not visible.
3. Reboot or do something else to force the media manager to rescan.
Uploaded files appear. (Opening the file from a file manager works.)

What is the expected behavior? What do you see instead?

Uploaded media files should be visible to the media framework without a
reboot. MedievalSoftware's Bluetooth File Transfer application seems to do
some magic so that files sent through Bluetooth appear immediately in Gallery.

What version of the product are you using?

1.11.

What operating system are you using?

Android 2.0.

What FTP client are you using?

lftp.

Which Android device do you have (Droid, Hero, G1, etc.)?

Motorola Milestone.

What do the server log and session monitor say around the time that the
error occurs?

Nothing unexpected and the files work ok.
