"Offline" mode for browsing the movies database #309

Hi,

I would be happy about an "offline" mode, where you can browse through your
movies/tv-shows/music/actors in the database while being not connected with the
xbmc server.

I think, storing the covers and pictures on sd card should be not an problem.

Thx

Not going to happen soon, but I'll nevertheless let you file it ;)

Yes, yes, yes! This is what I came here looking for!

Doesn't even have to have all the covers & pictures, just a simple text listing
would be great for when you're at the store, see a great sale on a movie and
wonder, "Do I already have that?"

As an alternative thought, I've found that all the thumbnails are cached on my
SD card (since I selected that). Would it be possible to simply name the thumbs
with the name of the movie in addition to the random looking text names they
get?

I'd imagine that the current file names are related to database keys and are
necessary for file lookup, but it shouldn't be too difficult to parse the list
looking for "*02a2a728" instead of just "02a2a728" when looking for an image to
display. This would allow me, a human to read the movie name as "Casino Royale
02a2a728", and allow the code to still find it by its index.

Thanks for listening! (much disappointment to see that this is slated for v2.0,
though. Any chance the file re-name might be easier to implement and move this
up?)

I would love this feature. Especially to convince people to start using XBMC,
showing the library always makes people see how easy (and full of eyecandy)
XBMC really is. When they see my HTPC they're usually convinced, but not all
that i'm trying to convince will be at my place ;)
