Plastic surgery for home landscape view #40

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Tilt the phone 90 degrees to landscape mode.
2. Roll the trackball down in the menu.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

"Remote Control" menu item moves.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

App 0.5.6
HTC Magic with Android 1.5

Please provide any additional information below.

Guess appears because the "Use as Remote Control" text takes to much space.
See attached picture.

Don't know, but I would guess this should be a list as in the portrait view.

Nah it becomes a grid in landscape view. The icons got a little larger so now it
scrolls, perfectly logical.

On the other hand, we do we keep landscape versions anyway? Who uses the remote
control in landscape mode anyway? Personally I only use it for typing text or
reading
articles.

Will need to discuss further but I think we're gonna drop landscape modes
anyway soon.

As there is a feature request to force landscape there seems to be at least one
person using the landscape layout ;)
Personally I would say we should include an option to force landscape or
portrait (as
I use it in portrait only, too ;))

Personally I use landscape view in the remote UI a lot, I like the extra
buttons it
provides such as the off function and the links to music and video, however I
wouldnt
want these buttons cramping the portrait layout. I love the current portrait
layout
as it is so similar to the original xbox remote I have used for many years.

I agree that we don't really need landscape views in the majority of the menus
but I
think dropping it from the remote UI at least is a bad idea.

Just noticed that this is the case in portrait view to. Not sure if this was in
earlier version then v0.5.8. See picture.

Tested on v0.5.8

Okay, will have a look at the weird menu moving (jeez - also the remote used to
move
weirdly, wtf.)

Concerning landscape mode I think we'll probably proceed as follows:
  - Drop all landscape screens except remote control.
  - Add an option to block out landscape remote control as well.

When lying on the couch I'm using the portrait remote blindly, usually holding
the
phone in any imaginable direction so I'd like to have the screen stay in
portrait
even while franatically moving the phone. Hence the optional blockout. I
understand
people who want to use the extra buttons though, still figuring out a solution
for
that in portrait mode.

About drop landscape screens exept remote control sounds good to me. An option
to
lock the screen would be good to.

Don't bother the landscape view. It's the portrait view that is important :)

how about a portrait view which has the extra buttons in a added on section at
the
top which you would access by dragging the remote down on the screen?

Just noticed that it doesn't move when there is only 2 options (Remote Control &
Connect).
If that could help somehow.

Ok, yesterday I noticed that this seems to be a problem for Android (1.5) in
general.
I entered a location in settings and noticed the same behavior as with this
app. So I
explored a little bit and found a couple of places:

Settings > Call settings > Call barring
Settings > Sound & display
Settings > Security

After you have entered one of those places via the touch scroll the trackball
down
and this problem should appear.

Note: You must enter these places via the touchscreen. Entering them via
clicking the
trackball wont reproduce it, very strange.

This issue looks like it is naturally gone anyway. However, I cant speak for
other
resolutions then my HTC Magic provides.
