Distinction between Application Status - APPLIED and RECEIVED could have been explained in the UG. A common understanding is that successfully applying for internship means that the application was received by the company.

Team's Response

If a company has no intention to use the RECEIVED status, they have no obligation to do so, and can ignore the status if necessary, or interpret it however they wish.

The purpose for RECEIVED was to indicate when the applicant has been received by separate interviewing parties, such as for technical interviews instead of HR interviews.

Companies that have this practice should be able to make use of the status intuitively.
