Updated gilson and hamilton control classes to be pyserial compatible #72

These modified controller classes work for me for the gilson pump and the hamilton valves using pyserial 3.4

This got merged with some changes that I had made to address the same problem. I'd be grateful if you could pull the current master and verify that it still works for you.
