No more thighs #148

Closed kendfrey closed 10 years ago

kendfrey commented 10 years ago

The eyes-to-thighs listener was fun for 5 minutes, but the word eyes is too common in normal dialogue, which leads to the bot rudely interrupting with crass remarks during good, on-topic conversation.

No more eyes.

sure. I support this.

AmaanC commented 10 years ago

Yep, throw it out.

RUJodan commented 10 years ago

It's very annoying, and whenever it's triggered, it cues like.. 5+ bad jokes everytime. My vote says remove

ralt commented 10 years ago

Since Zirak coded it, he might have some emotional bonds to it. How about instead of completely removing it, it only comes up on a 1% basis?

kendfrey commented 10 years ago

If it was random, we wouldn't be able to trigger it on purpose to make funny jokes. I'd prefer replacing it with something less commonly said, such as cloud-to-butt.

rlemon commented 10 years ago

I like the randomly getting the chance to trigger it idea. In a few months we will forget about it then BAM! thighs

kendfrey commented 10 years ago

I don't really like the idea of the bot making decisions on its own. Humans should be able to choose whether or not it's invoked.

The robots were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of SKYNET danced in their heads

rlemon commented 10 years ago

It isn't. I invoked it by saying eyes with a 1% chance of thighs

also on the topic of the bot 'doing things without interaction' -> I don't think anyone aside from jAndy has really noticed / been bothered by this: https://github.com/Zirak/SO-ChatBot/blob/master/master.js#L6563

I have. I love it. Le 12 déc. 2013 22:48, "Robert Lemon" notifications@github.com a écrit :

I'm not so much bothered by it. This is my main point:

If it was random, we wouldn't be able to trigger it on purpose to make funny jokes.

This won't make the bot become funny again. It will still be annoying, just less annoying. Why go for less annoying when we can just as easily do not annoying?

rlemon commented 10 years ago

It is funny because it happens randomly. It is less funny when people trigger it knowingly. On Dec 12, 2013 5:01 PM, "kendfrey" notifications@github.com wrote:

In fact I'd go as far as: it is annoying when people target the replacement commands. On Dec 12, 2013 5:01 PM, "kendfrey" notifications@github.com wrote:

+1 on the random trigger, but I would like to see a little better odds than %1.

As of writing this, there are a total of 1,500 messages containing "eye", out of about 1,563,700 total messages in the JavaScript room. On average, that's less than %0.01 of the time that someone mentions "eye". Meaning at %1, we have less than a %0.0001 chance of ever seeing this plugin.

I don't really like the idea of the bot making decisions on its own.

@kendfrey Tbh, I think that is a silly reason to not want to make it random. It's the people maintaining the bot, that make the decision of whether or not to include it, and how often to post it. The bot really has no say in the matter.
