Sounds pretty interesting what you are doing here!
Within the DevOps topic team (= "Fokusgruppe" equivalent in ZDE) we aim to set up such infrastructure stacks using an infrastructure-as-code approach with tools like Vagrant, Chef, Terraform, etc.. That way you can develop the whole automation locally using VMs, and whenever you are ready use the same scripts to set up the same stack in the cloud (assuming you are using IaaS mostly, not PaaS).
That said, we are less interested in the specific tools / services in your infrastructer (i.e. mesos, akka, cassandra, kafka), but rather in the general (and reusable) approaches of automating such infrastructures.
If you are interested in that, let's sync and see if we can collaborate on that.
Btw: the solution center enterprise in germany is highly interested in enterprise portals, and we are currently in discussion to work on reusable infrastructures stack for running enterprise portals. Not sure how well SHMACK maps to enterprise portals though...
Ohai!
