Just checking in if an update for Craft 5 support is in the works? Thanks, Jan

Hi @holiday-jan,

We're currently reviewing the functionality in the plugin with a view to enhancing it to support the new Consent Mode v2 from Google, and providing Craft 5 support.

There are other plugins available that would cover this already, but for our own clients and I suspect many other users of this plugin, the use of third party vendors is rare (except for Google Analytics), or even not applicable at all, so I still feel there's a place for something that remains a simple yes/no opt-in without the split between essential, analytics and optional.

Third party options such as CookieBot are more configurable, but we never set out to match the functionality they offer (which requires a subscription anyway), so I'd be interested to get your feedback on the type of sites you're using this on, and whether the changes we're planning would be relevant to you.

Agreed! We would like to continue using your "Cookie Consent Banner" plugin for a simple site. We'll use another service (like CookieBot) when we need a more complex setup.

Hi @aarmitage - what was the outcome on this? We have a Craft v5 upgrade blocked by this plugin so would like to know whether to wait or replace.

At the moment, this would be a Q4 project for us - probably towards the end of 2024. We know this plugin will be a blocker for some to upgrade to Craft 5, so our suggestion would be to use an alternative if you need to upgrade sooner rather than later.

With recent changes to things like Consent Mode and changes in our own client base, we're now recommending off the shelf options such as CookieYes or UserCentrics as they offer a higher level of compliance. These platforms will often have a free tier for smaller sites, or a relatively low cost 'plug and play' option with simple implementation through Google Tag Manager, so switching is quick and easy.

We created this plugin because at the time we felt it served a purpose for smaller sites that weren't using third party vendors for advertising or analytics, and therefore something like UserCentrics would have been overkill. I'm sure there are still sites out there that would benefit from a simpler plugin such as this, but as a small team ourselves, we're developers, not compliance experts and keeping up with various jurisdictions around the world just isn't practical. So unfortunately we're not prioritising the upgrade, but we're still planning on making it compatible with Craft 5 based on the current functionality.

If that works for you, great! We'll upgrade it as soon as we can, but otherwise, an alternative might be a better option for your site and something you'll be able to implement sooner rather than later.
