Some (usually smaller) conferences allow attendees to form their own ad-hoc events, i.e.,
What: SQL Aficionados Dinner
When: Friday 18:00 to unknown
Where: Giordano's, the best pizza place ever
All SQL aficionados are welcome to this dinner! Let's chat about how awesome PostgreSQL is, how much we absolutely loathe Oracle, and whether or not MS SQL is suitable for data warehousing.
Do note that you must RSVP to John Doe no later than 15:00 Friday, so that he can reserve a table of the appropriate size at Giordano's. Everyone is on-their-own to buy their meal; we're merely eating together.
This functionality would need to be optional on a per-conference basis, and moderation controls would need to be built into the back-end.
