Gmail Icon Gadget shows an incorrect number of unread email #28

Which gadget does this problem concern?

Gmail Icon Gadget

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Not sure, I've been using it about 2 months now, and one day it started
racking up the unread messages, now it says there are 31... I've logged in
with the gadget on another computer, and the count comes up correctly,
matching my Gmail... I tried deleting the registry entry for the gadget,
which forced a re-install, but still same problem

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect my icon to turn blue (according to my options settings) when
there are no unread email, and to accurately reflect the number of unread
email when there are some. Right now, if I click the title or the number,
the expand-o box comes out and lists emails I've already read, and the list
has 31 entries, matching the incorrect number display on the gadget face.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
The latest version, 1.5.4

Which version of Google Desktop are you running and which language version
of Google Desktop is installed? (You can find the version by clicking the
downward arrow on top of your sidebar and clicking About...)
Google Desktop 5.8.0809.08522-en-pb

Forgot to mention... clicking any of the "unread" emails in the expand-o list,
instead of taking me to that email in a browser window, just opens
"www.google.com"
in a browser window, so something is not right...
