GMail notifcation saying no connection, but there is

Which gadget does this problem concern?

The Gmail icon that links to my email and alerts me of new emails.
What steps will reproduce the problem?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect it to show me when I get new emails, instead it says that there is 
no connection, but there is since I am online.  I recently updated to 
google chrome and that is when this happened.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows Vista

Which version of Google Desktop are you running and which language version 
of Google Desktop is installed? (You can find the version by clicking the 
downward arrow on top of your sidebar and clicking About...)
google chrome, english

Please provide any additional information below. If you see visual issues 
please attach a screenshot to this issue.

The icon is red like it is when I have new mail and when I click on it, it 
still links me to my inbox, but it doesn't show when I get new messages. I 
think the problem started when I updated to google chrome.Please help, and 
thanks!
