Have you used Tabletop Simulator in VR?
I have! The last time I tried it the interactions weren't amazing for in VR participants, but it was still a cool experience. I could imagine this combined with other gadgets could start to create a more "tabletop simulator" kind of experience, but distributed between multiple gadget developers, instead of a single dev.
What I mean is the hand system, where cards are held over your left hand and it's not a bad way to interact with then. Grip to grab, flick back with the trigger held to flip, flick forward to deal. Grip and hold the trigger at the same time to collect multiple.
I'll have to check it out.
They only have the hand system, the rest I was suggesting. It works well when it works. There isn't a good way to hold in hand but that actually feels very nice to grab cards out of the air above your left hand. Maybe also let players take the "hand zone" and move it to a point in space if they want to do something with their offhand or are laying down.
If this can work remotely with other players who have the gadget installed, it'd be great!
What would this gadget do?
A deck of cards that shuffled cards can be pulled out. All cards can be pulled back into the deck The deck can be shuffled
Who would use this gadget?
Anyone who likes to play card games. Could be good during idle time or as a full card game experience with friends.
Assuming that you're on the team, what other skillsets would you need to make this project happen over a couple days of hacking?
Interaction design and coding
What will be the toughest part of building this gadget?
Grabbing and maneuvering cards will be challenging to feel good as you don't have the fine motor control you'd normally have while playing with cards.
