can't manage sources or add pictures to a new item until you save it first #69

I added a new item to my list, but it wouldn't allow me to add the source or pictures until I saved it first, and then went back to it. It should be possible to do the whole process at once (especially since it has it visible, but the buttons are grayed out).

From aaron.ei...@gmail.com on December 12, 2012 19:18:57 Due to the structure of the workflow, item images and item sources cannot currently be created before an item is as images and sources need to be tied to that item by id. I'm contemplating an alternative item creation methodology that will solve this problem, but in the meantime it's a limitation.

I'm open to suggestions for an alternative workflow that would provide for an item to be 'saved' (created) first and add images and sources.

From ke...@envail.com on December 12, 2012 19:25:39 Can you just turn it into a two-step process? Everything minus the images and sources on the first screen, then a "Next" button that saves the item and takes you to the second screen where you then add images and sources?

From ke...@envail.com on December 31, 2012 03:21:37 Any further thoughts or progress on this? It's definitely the biggest hindrance we've run into with the new wishlist versus phpGiftReg. It's a pretty big hassle to enter part of an item, save it, scroll down your list until you find it again, edit it, add the remaining information (sources, images) and re-save. Definitely sub-optimal.

From aaron.ei...@gmail.com on December 31, 2012 19:03:40 I definitely think it's something that needs to be fixed. I'm still working on the best programmatic approach, and what will require the least in terms up changes to the code.

Anything further on this? It really drives my wife crazy... and I have to admit, the more frequently I add items, the closer this gets to being a deal-breaker. (I know, you'd be crushed to lose a "customer", haha)

This is the top of my list as soon as I finish the freelance project that I'm working on. I know this is a tremendous pain the neck (I hate it too) and I hope to have a fix taken care of quickly.

Just a quick note on this. I have a fix in the works, and hope to have it out at the end of the week.

This is still coming, it's just been delayed by a different project I have to put my energy into. That's done on Saturday though, so keep the faith, it's coming.

Okay, thanks for the update! :) Much appreciated. You certainly don't owe me/us anything!

Well, you guys were willing to jump ship from phpgiftreg and give DoWant a shot. I'm quite appreciative of that, and it's nice to have someone else beyond my family using the system. And, like I said before, you guys find use-cases that never would've occurred to me. :)

phpgiftreg has come a long ways since then (now using, yep. Bootstrap) but it's still... I don't know. Despite the aesthetics improvement, it still feels like the same ol' phpgiftreg underneath. You built Do-Want from the ground up, and it shows.
